• Gelos Nasledie Gallery
  The Gelos Nasledie ['Heritage'] Foundation is a new branch of Gelos Auction House's activity. For 15 years of successful work, the Gelos has gained the necessary potential to conduct large-scale research activities. We are in art business and we know how unfair life can be to the creative work of many artists.
  The Foundation's experts aim at searching and finding talented artists and whole groups of artists active in the mid-20th century. A wide-scale exhibition activity supported by the Russian Federation Ministry of Culture, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, the Association of Russian Artists and many other organisations interested in developing and populirizing Russian art has been outlined.

• Gelos Institute
  Nowadays, Russia undergoes the growth of interest in collecting art objects and antiques. People having spare money become private collectors of art objects and antiques in increasing frequency, participate in auctions in order to purchase paintings, furniture, icons, jewels for $100 to $100,000 and more. At the same time, Russia faces challenge of training skilled staff of antiques salons, galleries and the like.   The Russian and West-European Paintings Gallery is one of the most authorised organisations in the Russian paintings market.   The antique jewellery salon presents jewels made by the best jewellers of the late 18th to the early 20th century and exclusive works by modern makers that will favourably accentuate the originality of their owners.

  The Gelos's Fine Wine Department offers a splendid selection of wines to suit everybody's taste, including those from wine-cellars of the world-famous Massandra.

• Antique Furniture Salon
  The Antique Furniture Salon presents a vast range of furniture of different times and in different styles. The salon renders items restoration and attribution services, gives advice on furniture-makers of the past. The salon also deals with interior design.

  The informational technologies development have given Gelos Auction House the opportunity to launch its own virtual representative office on the Internet and come to the international antiques market. The Gelos sells through auction a total of about 2,000-2,500 items per month at a price of 1 rouble to a few hundred thousand dollars. Every Wednesday the Gelos gathers second-hand booksellers, every Friday the company is visited by numismatists, and every last Friday of the month the Gelos offers its clients a special collection of a particular sales category.

We maximise the authenticity of the antique items we sell. All the lots put up for auction undergo expert examination in Gelos Auction House and relevant museums, which is confirmed by official expert report.

Gelos Auction House guarantees the authenticity of information on auction items and is fully liable for it within 5 years of the day of the auction.

We have set up a paintings research laboratory and a gemological laboratory to carry out expert examination.

OUR MISSION

Company's History Gelos Auction House established in 1988 is the only auction house in Russia. The company type so natural in the Western World is represented in Russia by a sole organisation. We can long list foreign names being on everyone's lips: Sotheby's, Chriestie's, Dorotheum, but there is only one Russian name: Gelos. In recent years, the antiques market has experienced a real revolution. Purchasing antique items, investing in antiques and collectibes have become one of the most popular operations in the Russian investment market among both private persons and corporate bodies. An increase in demand caused an increase in number of antiquaries and a rapid growth of activity branches innovative in the Russian market. The formation of Gelos Auction House as a market organism was going on at these very years, therefore the Gelos considers all market changes in a subtle and efficient way. In the past years, there have occured a lot of outstanding events connected with the auction house's name (from exhibitions of rare masterpieces to charity auctions). Selling the Inkombank Collection on 13 April 2002 marked a turning-point in the development of our company taking us to a new level. At the same time, it was a certain sizing up. In the 15th year of its existence, the Gelos worked with a unique masterpiece, a symbol of the 20th century. None of the world's auction houses (Sotheby's, Christie's, Phillip's) could even dream of organising such a significant event at such an early age. Selling the Inkombank Collection became not only an important milestone in the Gelos's history but also a significant event in the whole Russian antiques market. This is an unprecedented occurance in the modern history of Russia. Gelos Auction House president Oleg Stetsyura supposes that "the next similar event will occur in the Russian art market no sooner than 50 years from now".

Our Mission We are confident that in a few years Russian art, including paintings, will retake a leading position in the global art market. But it requires painstaking, everyday labour of both art historians, museum staff and antiquaries - labour of us all. Russia gave the world a lot of geniuses, and the Russian culture has always had a dramatic impact on the world. But as time goes by, we realise more and more that the impact is mutual but there is only one world. Limitations are diminishing progressively, economic borders are expanding, economic integration between countries is strengthening, consequently, cultural fusion is inevitable. Therefore we must not only preserve our culture but also determine the place it occupies in the world culture, especially by organising such extrardinary events as presenting Russian art masterpieces in the market. Gelos Auction House is constantly searching for various forms of cooperation with the most authorised auction houses of Europe, realising in Russia the essence of the world experience. In our point of view, the civilised art market's existence in this country is an indispensable condition for preserving and augmenting the national heritage. Our Symbol Gelos Auction House has two symbols. The first one is a big aristocratic fauteuil made over by an artist into a shell. And another item became our visiting card rather than a symbol. It is the famous Faberge third elephant. Tatyana Faberge first said it was impossible because it could never be. But we managed to prove that it really exists. And the heiress agreed with this, as well as all the other experts from different countries.
